Agenda

  1. Welcome/Announcements (Jenny, William)
  2. Review Table of Recommendations (Group)
    1. AICTPC Table of Recommendations
      1. Any questions?
  3. Recommendations
    1. Recommendation 7a: The University intends to use ATAG (Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines) 2.0 to ensure that authoring tools are capable of producing accessible content. (Jenny, William)
      1. Continue developing Authoring Tool Coverage Table (Recommendation 7a)
      2. Defining “authoring tool” and “web content” within the context of the Syracuse University community
        • We have further developed the draft Authoring Tool table to add content around the intent of ATAG and who it is really targeting, borrowed from W3C.
        • ATAG applies to HTML and EPUB, and is generally intended for developers of authoring tools.
        • We struggled with other types of publications. Was it really only HTML or EPUB or is it broader than that?
        • We need to define HTML and EPUB in the glossary.
          • Maybe Lisa Andreotta and Robin Wade can help us define this in layperson terms.
        • The group proceeded to continue developing the language for the Authoring Tool table, including who ATAG is for, examples of the 6 types identified, and an overall definition of an authoring tool. We want the definition of an authoring tool to remain broad to help us with long term application of it in the Policy.
        • The next question: Would Syracuse University adopt this standard?
          • The question was met with a resounding “yes!”
        • The group may also (potentially) adopt the W3C standards, or the Guidelines listed on W3C’s ATAG homepage, now linked on the Authoring Tool table page.
        • The Recommendation Table language for 7a now reads: “Adopted this recommendation and a definition of "authoring tool," and drafted an  Authoring Tool Coverage Table.  (Potentially adopted the W3C standards for an authoring tool.)
  4. Next/Future Meeting
