Overview

  • There are 2 parts to this process. First connect to SU's network using SU's Virtual Private Network (VPN), then control your office desktop using Microsoft's Remote Desktop (RDP).
  • Your office computer must be powered on. I recommend that you restart your office desktop before you leave your office if you anticipate needing to RDP in. You do not need to be logged into the computer to be able to RDP in.
  • Remote desktop must be turned on for you before this will work. If you are unsure that this is the case please ask consult@cas.syr.edu..
  • We will create you a custom  RDP configuration file if you ask. Please send an email to consult@cas.syr.edu. This will have your NetID@syr.edu and full computer name in it.

If you do not have a custom RDP file (applies to people connecting from Mac & Windows computer)

  • You need to know the Full computer name of your office computer.
    • To learn the Full computer name of your office computer in press the Windows key and type Control Panel.
    • Click on System
