Beginning in November 2021, users accessing Blackboard with a Microsoft Edge browser began to see a message reading:

404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

This problem occurs when Edge attempts to open Microsoft Office document such as a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file from Blackboard within the browser itself, rather than downloading it and opening it from the application.

Users encountering this problem can verify it by attempting to access the file from Firefox or Google Chrome.

If a user prefers to continue using Edge with Blackboard they should adjust their browser settings by disabling the option to "Open Office files in the browser."

Beginning in July 2021, the Kaltura Video Transcript Player no longer displays correctly in Blackboard. The vendor has informed ITS that they will not repair the issue and instead are focused on a newer version of the player which is slated for release in 2022. ITS will evaluate the new player upon release to determine if it suitable for use in Blackboard at Syracuse University.

Beginning in January 2022, in courses with Turnitin assignments deployed using an older integration, Instructors will encounter an error when accessing student submission through the Grade Center. Students may encounter it when accessing their submissions from My Grades. The error screen says:

Error — filesys.err.dir.attempt
Installed Version — 2.8.5.

The workarounds are as follows:

  • Instructors: From the course menu, Click "Course Tools" and then "Turnitin Assignments." Clicking the assignment title on the subsequent page will open the assignment inbox displaying all the student submissions. Grades and feedback entered from here will populate to the Grade Center.
  • Students: Access your submission by locating the assignment where it is posted in your course and following the link from there.

Instructors should update the Turnitin assignments in their course by deleting the old assignments and re-creating them with the newer integration method.
