Note: This process is intended for College of Law wireless printing only

Preliminary steps
- You may need to allow downloads from anywhere in your System Preferences by choosing Security and Privacy, unlocking with your Mac credentials, and selecting Anywhere.
Download the Canon drivers from this link. Click Save File. Double click on the file to extract it, then click on the .dmg file in Downloads. Click the Installer.pkg file and follow prompts to complete the installation.
Please be patient as the install process for the driver may take several minutes.
Adding a Printer
- Click on the Apple icon and then select System Preferences.
Click on Printers & Scanners.
If you did an upgrade from a previous version of OS X and you had College of Law printers installed, they need to be deleted. These printers should show up in the new window, to delete a printer, select it, then click on the "-" under the list of printers.
After all the old printers have been deleted, continue with the install instructions.
- Click on the "+" under the list of printers.
- An Add window should now show up. Look for an Advanced button on the Add window toolbar (next to Default, IP and Windows).
- If there is no Advanced button, you will need to customize your toolbar. Control+click on the toolbar area and select Customize Toolbar...
- Drag the Advanced item over onto the toolbar and click Done.
- If there is no Advanced button, you will need to customize your toolbar. Control+click on the toolbar area and select Customize Toolbar...
- Now click on the Advanced button.
- In the Add window, in the Type field, select Windows....
- Leave the Device field set to Another Device.
In the URL field enter the following
smb://law-prq-03.ad.syr.edu/NameofPrinterPlease note that you need to replace NameOfPrinter with one of the printers listed below
Law-Library140
Law-Library240- Enter a Name and Location (use the printer name as listed above).
- In the Use field, choose Select Software, and add a driver as described below
- For the Law-Library140 and Law-Library240 printers, type Canon IR in the search box and then locate the Canon IR-ADV 4245 driver and click OK
- For the Law-Library140 and Law-Library240 printers, type Canon IR in the search box and then locate the Canon IR-ADV 4245 driver and click OK
- Click Add.
- The printer should now be added.
- Repeat steps 3 - 12 to add the other printer (you do not need to repeat steps 4 & 5), ensuring that you select the correct driver.
THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT! PRINTING WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT THIS STEP!
Try to print a test page or any document and enter your SU NetID credentials when prompted.
The first time you try to print, you should be prompted to enter your credentials. Delete whatever is listed in the name box and then enter your SU NetID and password. You should save the credentials to your Keychain and you can do so by checking the Remember this password box in the authentication window.
- If you are NOT PROMPTED to enter your credentials, and when you try to print, your print job pauses with the message On Hold (Authentication Required), follow the instructions at this link to fix this issue..
Releasing Your Print Job
Note that items sent to the Law Library's printers are queued on the server and, as a final step, must be manually released to the printer. Click here for additional details.
Student Organization Printing
Use the same instructions as above.

After Password Change (click to expand)
Issue:
You have changed your SU NetID password
When you try to print to the printers, the job doesn't print and you receive a message Hold for Authentication or On Hold (Authentication Required).
How to Fix:
Open your Mac's Keychain Access application. There are two ways to do this:
- Go to your Launchpad, open the Other folder, then click on the Keychain Access icon.
OR - Click on the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of your screen,
In the Spotlight Search window, type Keychain
Click on the icon for Keychain Access in the results window
- Go to your Launchpad, open the Other folder, then click on the Keychain Access icon.
- In the search box at the top right of the Keychain Access window, type law.
You should see an entry similar to the one below with the same name that you have the printer saved as.
Highlight the entry in the list and then hit the delete key on your keyboard.
Select Delete when prompted.
Now try to print your print job again.
You will be prompted to enter your credentials. Make sure that both the option for Registered User and Remember this password in my keychain are selected.
Enter your NetID and your new password.
Please Note
The name field is usually filled in with your Mac username. Please make sure to delete whatever is already in the box and retype your SU NetID username.
- Click OK.
- You should now be able to print successfully.
After Password Change (click to expand)
Issue:
