SU Guests/Visitors Wireless Access

 

AirOrangeGuest is the wireless network available for guests and visitors on SU's campus. AirOrangeGuest provides unsecuredshort-term wireless access. 

Self-Sponsored

Wireless access for guests and visitors not affiliated with Syracuse University.

1. To create a self-sponsored account, a text capable mobile phone is required before proceeding.

2. Connect to the AirOrangeGuest wireless network. Open your web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc...) and go to http://guestadmin.syr.edu/guest/register.php.

NOTE: If an account has already been created, select the Already have a password? Click to sign in link above to login.

NOTE 2: all guest accounts created before 7/26/16 will need to be re-created.

3. Guests must enter their 10-digit cell phone number. Check the I accept terms of use box and click Register. You will be taken to a confirmation page and your password will be texted to the cell phone number used here. Select the Click HERE to sign in link to login.

4. Enter your guest ID (cell phone number) and your password and click Log In. You’re now ready to use the internet.

NOTE: Your account is valid for 1 week.

SU-Sponsored (only current SU Faculty, Staff or Students can sponsor guests)

Wireless access for guests and visitors not affiliated with Syracuse University.

1. To create a su-sponsored account, a 10 digit phone number will be needed to use as your guest's login.

2. On the sponsor’s computer (wired connection), open a web browser and go to https://guestadmin.syr.edu, login with your net/password.

3. Select Create New Guest Account.

4. Fill out the form for the guest and click Create.

5. Guests can connect to the network using their device and connecting to the AirOrangeGuest wireless network. Open a web browser and go to http://guestadmin.syr.edu/guest/register.php to login.

NOTE: Your account is valid for 2 weeks.

EDUROAM 

Eduroam (education roaming) provides students, faculty, and staff from participating institutions simple, instant and secure access to the Internet when visiting each other's institutions.

Laptops

1. From your device, connect to the eduroam wireless network.

2. When prompted, type in your credentials (full email address and password) from your participating institution.

3. Select OK or Join to connect. Once connected, you should be ready to use the internet. 

Android (phone/tablet)

Open the Settings application, go to Wi-Fi and select the eduroam wireless network. When prompted, use the following settings:

  • EAP Method:  PEAP
  • Phase 2 Authentication:  MSCHAPv2
  • Identity:  enter your institution's full email address
  • Password:  enter your password

Select Connect. Once connected, you should be ready to use the internet.

iOS (iPhone/iPad)

1. Open the Settings application.

2. Go to Wi-Fi and select the eduroam wireless network.

3. When prompted, enter your institution's full email address and password and select Join.

4. On the next window select Accept, to accept the certificate.

Once connected, you should be ready to use the internet.

SU Guests/Visitors Printing

Creating a Guest Printing Account

Guest/Visitor printing is a service provided by Syracuse University’s new printing system (PaperCut).

Warning: All guest printing accounts and balances will expire after the end of Syracuse University’s Summer Session II and before the beginning of the Fall semester every year (usually the last 3 weeks in August). ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE UNIVERSITY FOR ANY REMAINING BALANCE LEFT ON YOUR PRINTING ACCOUNT WHEN IT EXPIRES.

1. Open a web browser and go to https://printing.syr.edu and click on the bottom Register as a New User link.

2. Fill out the form and click Register.

3. Open your email account and look for an email asking to verify your email address. You’ll need to click on the link in that email to verify and activate your printing account.

4. Login with your newly created account. Select the Add funds (CASHNET) tab and proceed to instantly add funds to your account with a credit card before printing for the first time.

Note - funds cannot be added with cash, the university currently only allows guest account transactions via credit card.

Note 2 - funds are only required for printing, scanning is free on all public copiers/scanners using this guest account.

Printing From a Libraries Workstation

Only the following patrons will be able to print from a libraries workstation: SU Emeriti Faculty, SU Distance Learning Students, SU and ESF Alumni, Sponsored/Visiting Researchers, Spouses/Dependents of SU Faculty/Staff.

1. Go to File->Print in your program and select one of the following printers and click Print:

  • lib-bird-1A-guest
  • lib-bird-1B-guest
  • lib-bird-1C-guest
  • lib-bird-3-guest
  • lib-carn-3-guest

2. A login window will pop up asking for a Netid and password, type in the username and password used to create your guest printing account and click OK.

NOTE: guest printing accounts always begin with guest-.

Printing From Your Personal Laptop/Mobile Device (AirOrangeGuest + Email to Print)

NOTE: Please note that this feature is currently limited to B&W double-sided printing ONLY.

1. Using any email client (web, desktop, mobile) with the email address used to create the guest printing account, compose a new email.

2. Include the file/s you wish to print as an attachment (you can attach more than one document in the same email).

NOTE: Acceptable files include Microsoft Office (docx, xlsx, pptx etc…), PDF and image files (jpg, png, tiff, gif etc…). Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite files are not supported.

3. Send your email to print@syr.edu

4. Login to the SU print management system at https://printing.syr.edu

5. From the Jobs Pending Release tab, release your job by clicking print next to your job’s name and selecting a printer from the listed options.

Libraries printers are:

  • lib-bird-0 (Bird Lower level)
  • lib-bird-1-email (Bird 1st floor, east side)
  • lib-arch-3 (Architecture Reading room, Slocum 3rd floor)
