COVID-19 Impact on Computer Labs

As part of its COVID-19 pandemic response, The College of Visual and Performing Arts has reduced room occupancy for computer labs to comply with social distancing guidelines. Computer workstations unavailable for use in-person have been reserved for use remotely. Computers approved for in-person use have a social distancing decal placed on the floor under the chair. Computers reserved for remote access have had their keyboards and mice removed. Please respect social distancing.

Remote Lab Access Instructions

Prerequisites

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) when accessing remote labs from off campus. Instructions for installing and using VPN on personally-owned Windows and macOS computers are available on Answers. Faculty with assigned Windows laptops managed by VPA IT do not require a VPN client.
  • A Microsoft Remote Desktop client. Microsoft Windows users may use the built-in Remote Desktop Connection application in Windows 10. Mac users will need to download Microsoft's Remote Desktop client for macOS available on the Mac App Store.

How To Connect

  1. If you're off campus, first establish a VPN connection back to the campus network by installing the VPN client for your operating system and following the instructions to connect.
  2. Open your Microsoft Remote Desktop client and connect to the server for the lab you're interested in using. RDP protocol files are available for download below to streamline this process.
