You should have received an email stating that your email migration is about to complete. After receiving this message the automated migration process will resume, verifying the files moved then redirect your SU email address to the new SUMail system.
Once your account has been moved to SUMail (approximately 30 minutes to an hour after the "migration is about to complete" email) , you will need to reconfigure certain applications that you used previously with your email account.
Web Access
Please Note: Once you receive the email that your SUMail is about to complete you will no longer be able to access your email through the old exchange.syr.edu website |

- To access your SU email through the web, direct your web browser to: SUMail.syr.edu
- Enter your full SU email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu) then click on the 'Next' button
- Enter your NetID passwordthen click on the 'Sign In' button
- You will be prompted to authenticate into your account using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
- Once you validate your account via the 2 factor authentication process you will be able to access your email using your web browser.
Windows Computer
- If Outlook is open, please restart Outlook.
- If prompted for a user name and password, please use your full email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu) and password.
Mac Computer
- Open Microsoft Outlook
- Click on the "Tools" pull down menu, located on the main menu bar at the top of your screen and select 'Accounts' at the the bottom of the pull down menu
- In the window that appears, select your email account from the column on the left side of the window (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu)
- Once selected, click on the minus (-) button in the lower left corner of the window
In the drop down dialogue box that appears, click on the 'Delete' button to remove your old account
Please Note: Deleting an account from your email client will not impact the contents of your email account, which will be restored when you login back into your account in the following steps - Your old email account is now being removed from outlook and will take a few minutes to complete. When this process is complete the account will be removed from the column on the left
- Once the old account is removed, click on the plus (+) button in the lower left corner of the window and select the 'New Account' option from the popup menu
- In the window that appears, type your full email address into the field then click on the 'Continue' button
- When prompted, type in you SU password then click on the 'Sign in' button
- You will be prompted to authenticate into your account using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Once you authenticate your account, you will be presented with a green checkmark and an opportunity to add another email account to Outlook. Otherwise, click on the 'Done' button
Please Note: Your computer will need to sync your email with the servers, which will take a while to complete depending on the number of email message associated with your email account.
- Open the Mail app
- Once the Mail app is open, click on the "Mail" pull down menu, located on the left side of the main menu bar at the top of your screen and select 'Accounts...' from the pulldown menu
- Select your email account from the column on the left side of the window (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu)
- Once selected, click on the minus (-) button in the lower left corner of the window.
A pop up menu will appear to confirm the accounts removal. Click on the 'OK' button

When this process is done the account will be removed from the column on the left
- Once the old account is removed, click on the Microsoft Exchange option from the right column
- In the Email Address field, enter your full email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu) and click on the 'Sign in' button in the lower right corner of the popup menu.
- On the secondary pop-up menu click on the 'Sign in' button again
- When prompted enter your SU password, then click on the 'Sign in' button
- You will be prompted to authenticate into your account using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
- Once you authenticate with 2FA, you will need to grant permission to Mail by scrolling down and clicking the 'Accept' button
Once the account has been added, you can select what apps you would like to use with this account, (e.g. contacts, calendars, reminders...) then click the 'Done' button

Mobile Devices
- On your iOS device, go to 'Settings' and scroll down and tap on the "Mail" option. Once in the "Mail" settings tap on the "Accounts" option.
- Tap on the account you would like to remove from the list, identified by your full email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu).
At the bottom of the screen tap on the 'Delete Account' button.

- Launch the Outlook app on your iOS device .
- In the top left corner of the screen, tap on circular icon to bring up the navigation pane. In the lower left corner of this pane, tap on the 'Settings' icon that looks like a gear / sprocket
- Tap the account you would like to remove, identified by your full email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu).
A new window will appear. Tap on the 'Delete Account' link at the bottom of the list

- After you have deleted your account you will be prompted to enter you for your full SU email address (e.g. newhelp@syr.edu). Once entered tap on the 'Add Account' button
- In the password field, enter your NetID password. Once complete, tap on the 'Sign In' button at the bottom of the window.
Pro Tip: If you plan to use multiple email accounts, you can use the description field to keep track of which account your looking at. (e.g. Work, SU email, NICS) - On the next screen, tap on the 'Maybe Later' button to proceed to your email
Please Note: If you want to receive your SU email on your Android device you need to install the Microsoft Outlook app from the Google Play store. To install the app please visit the Google Play Store from your Android device to download and install the Microsoft Outlook app. |

- Click on the 'Continue >' link in the lower right corner of the window
- Enter your NetID password on the Office 365 sign in page and tap on the 'Sign In' button. The page will refresh asking to verify your identity with your two-factor authentication method (MFA/2FA).
- Your account will be added to the Outlook app.
Proxy Email Access
Proxy email, also known as a Shared email, is a generic email account accessed by a group or team within an organization (e.h. newhelp@syr.edu, NHadv@syr.edu...). If you had access to a shared calendar previously you should continue to have access to it as a proxy resource. Please follow the instructions below on how to relink your email client to your proxy email account.
- Open Microsoft Outlook

- Click link to "Sign in with another account"
- Delete shared email address (it auto-populates from previous screen) and enter your own NetID@syr.edu email address and then click on "Next" butto
- Enter your password and click on the "Sign in" button
- Approve the two-factor authentication prompt using the method you setup for your account (notification sent as text message, phone call, Authenticator App)
- Once you authenticate your account, you will be presented with a green checkmark and an opportunity to add another email account to Outlook. Otherwise, click on the 'Done' button
